Thurston James Cooper Jr. was born on July 19, 1957, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Thurston J Cooper Sr. and Verna Lee Cooper. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenneth Cooper.
His talents showed early in life. A true jack of all trades, he was a brick mason and was an exceptional carpenter. His greatest gift was his natural showmanship, he loved to dress well, dance and sing. With his radiant smile and vibrant spirit, he was always the life of the party.
When faced with adversity he kept a smile and pushed through it. Throughout his life, he lived in Los Angeles and New Orleans and then settled in the Gallatin area to be closer to his daughters and grandchildren. He enjoyed music, playing cards, and challenging anyone who dared to face him in a game of chess.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Tonita Cooper and Verna Cooper-Wescott(Mikal). He is also survived by a brother, Gary Cooper; three sisters, Gwen Cooper, Scemond Wilson (James), and Schewon Kelly; sister‑in‑law, Nelly Cooper(Kenneth - deceased); 10 grandchildren; 5 great‑grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.
Thurston died the morning of February 21, 2026 and will be forever missed but never forgotten. He was a compassionate man with a generous heart and a kind soul with great love for his family. He touched the lives of many. His memory will live in the hearts of all who loved him.
He is now in Gods hands, may he rest in peace.
