Ruth Wright

August 13, 1933 — September 19, 2020

Ruth Elizabeth Wright, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, dear friend, and follower of Jesus went to be with the Lord on September 19th. She was 87.

Ruth was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 13th, 1933 to Fred and Elizabeth Laubenstein. She lived there until 1981, raising her two sons, Mike and Rob, and her daughter Leanne. Though she moved from Winnipeg to Denver, CO, Mendham, NJ, Chicago, IL, and finally back to Denver, she maintained a lifelong bond with her hometown through her dear friends and special nieces and nephews there.

Ruth had a simple passion for the ordinary beauty of everyday life. She loved coffee and the newspaper in the morning. She collected spoons from the various places she visited and events she attended. She loved to iron anything anyone would bring her. She would polish silver to a mirror finish, and roll dozens of cookies and pounds of meatballs to make sure her grandkids had freezers stocked with food.

Ruth loved the mountains, and fresh bloomed dahlias. She loved cocktail shrimp, Sunday roast, and Yorkshire pudding. She was always ready for a game of Liverpool Rummy or Bridge and was always a match for her grandkids. On any given day for nearly twenty years Ruth could be found participating in various activities at the Ela Township Senior Center and she kept many wonderful friends there.

The highlight of her last year (and his first year) was her time with her great-grandson, Reid. She lavished him with the love only a great-grandmother can; feeding him, cooing with him, reading to him, and giving him baths. He will carry the love she gave him for the rest of his life.

Ruth's faith in Jesus was central to her life. She was an active member at Arlington Heights Baptist Church in Chicago for many years, and after moving to Denver she joined the women's Bible study at St. John's Lutheran Church. She read her Bible every morning, and prayed often for her children, grandchildren, great-grandson, and the needs and requests of countless others.

In her life she saw World Wars, prosperity, recession, the birth of the information age and the internet, and a global pandemic; she survived breast cancer and lived to see the birth of her great-grandson. She was born the same year as construction started on the Golden Gate bridge and the first solo flight around the world was completed. In her later years she bought birthday presents online with her iPad, loved texting photos of her grandkids and great-grandson to her friends, and enjoyed using Uber's GoGo Grandma service for her weekly shopping trip to Target.

Ruth was preceded in death by her daughter, Leanne. She is survived by her sons: Mike and his wife Katy, and Rob and his wife Kim; six grandchildren: Michelle and her husband Mike, Bill, Kristin and her husband Michael, Dan, Sara, Nicole and her husband Connor, and one great-grandson, Reid.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 17th in Breckenridge, Colorado on a hill overlooking the mountains.
