On Monday, June 23, 2025, Randy Wayne Hoover passed from his earthly home to his heavenly home at the age of 68. Randy was born in Huntington, Indiana, on October 5, 1956, to Herb and Vonnie Hoover. He graduated from Huntington North High School in 1975. Randy worked with his father in their family owned business, Hoover the Mover, for many years. In addition, he worked in the police and sheriff’s departments as an ordinance officer and other capacities. As a city councilman, Randy worked to make the city of Huntington a better place for its citizens, even running for mayor once. He often spoke proudly of the 28 years he portrayed Santa Claus in the area, his huge laugh and personality being a perfect fit. Randy retired from Pendleton Prison in Indiana, where he had served as a correctional officer for seven years. After living the majority of his life in the Huntington area, including some other nearby towns, he made the move to Tennessee in September, 2014. Shortly after, he met and fell in love with Cynthia Jantz. Realizing almost immediately that God had brought them together, Randy and Cindy married on June 15, 2015, in Mackinaw City, Michigan, on the bank of Lake Huron. Their marriage was a covenant between God and the two of them. They held God first throughout their marriage. Randy advocated for others his entire life. The years he spent in Tennessee included volunteering with hospice, a domestic violence center, a suicide prevention organization, along with sharing food and other things with people and families who touched his heart. He loved making children and adults laugh, often at this own expense. Children always held a soft spot in his heart. Randy had an avid interest in classic cars, Big Foot, UFOs, and the unknown. He also had a love for all things Amish, visiting Shipshewana, Indiana, many times, always saying he loved the simple life and the clippity clop of the horses. He loved music, especially the music from his youth. His faith was always foremost in his life. Being a Baptist from the time he accepted Christ many years ago, he had been attending church with his wife at St. Luke Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Madison, Tennessee, until the time of his passing. Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Lillian Yvonne (Detwiler) Hoover, and his sister Nancy Hoover Caverly. He is survived by his loving wife of only ten years, Cynthia Jantz Hoover (Hendersonville, Tennessee); sister, Kathy Connolly (Mel); son, Justin Hoover (Jill), daughter, Haley Bair (Michael); and 5 grandchildren, Ryenne, Vince, Audrey, Liam, and Tristan (all from Indiana). Randy wished to be cremated. There will be a memorial service to be announced at St.Luke Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 901 W. Old Hickory Blvd., Madison, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt or St. Luke Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
