Phyllis Rice Whittle

Phyllis Rice Whittle, age 94, of Nashville TN, went to her eternal home Friday, February 6, 2026. Born on December 29, 1931 in Henagar, AL to Sue and Frank Rice. Phyllis had a strong faith that resulted in contentment in whatever circumstance she found herself. She loved playing the piano and served as a choir director/organist at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Decatur, AL until its closure before joining Austinville United Methodist Church. She taught in Decatur City Schools and worked in the Building Department at City Hall until her retirement. She is preceded in death by her husband, Tom Whittle, her brother Jim Rice, her youngest son, Chris Whittle (Jana) and her grandson, Jason Hughes.

Survived by sons Steve Whittle (Irene) of Gresham, Oregon and Mike Whittle (Jana) of Nashville, Tennessee. She was the proud grandmother of Nick (Jo), Stephanie (Henry), Christina (Zach), Ben (Lori), Audrey, Alex (Jenny), Sarah (Tristan), and Zach and the great-grandmother of Annelyse, Liam, Zeke, Jude, Jace, Millie, Isla, Addie, Ellie, and Vince.

Her love and legacy will carry on.

A special thank you to the caregivers at Harmony at Bellevue senior living community, Nashville TN for the kindness, care, and friendship they provided Phyllis the past 3 years.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 28 at Austinville United Methodist Church, 908 Lamar Street SW, Decatur, AL 35601, at 11:30 a.m. with visitation 30 minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in her honor to your local church or Austinville United Methodist Church.
