Phillip Layton

Phillip E. (Phil) Layton age 68, passed away Saturday August 15, 2020. He was born in Santa Fe, N.M. on October 30, 1951 to Charles Max and Mary Jessie Shafer. Phillip is survived by his daughter Jennifer and husband Nick P. Romero. His loving sister Naomi J. Romero, whom he lived with, and who took care of him. A special Niece Eva (Evangeline) Asselin who also helped with his care, and helped the family with support and decisions on his medical care, and was always there for him. He is also survived by many other Nephews and Nieces, Louis Layton, Robert Layton, Desiree Layton, Joseph Jr. Layton, Dominic Layton, Gilbert Sanchez, Jessica Sanchez-Major, Therese Shafer, and Stephanie Shafer, and many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Louise(Lulu), his parents, his loving grandmother Juanita, and his brothers Joseph Layton and Charles (Charlie) Shafer.

Phillip was a man with a big heart, he was stubborn and hard-headed at times. He had a great love for animals, especially dogs. He was a big sports fan, always cheering on his favorite teams, The Lakers, The Cubs, and “Da Bears”. He loved outdoors, working on the yard, and especially loved to go fishing. He enjoyed good conversation, and visiting with family and friends. He loved to spoil his grand-dogs Lilly, Monty, and Nala, and he loved Coco his sisters dog that she shared with him. He was always outgoing and made friends everywhere he went, you knew you were a good friend when he gave you a nickname. His famous saying after meeting a person was saying they are “good people”. He had a great friendship with Bubba (his son in law Nick) who he would talk to for hours about sports and movies, he loved to watch westerns and old movies. Phillip will be missed by many.
