Mark Steven Zimmerman, Castle Rock, Colo., unexpectedly passed away Nov. 5, 2020, with family at his side. He was 66. Mark was born Aug. 5, 1954, in Tooela, Utah, to Jim and Anita Zimmerman. Mark's dad was in the Air Force, so he spent his younger years in Utah and California before the family settled in Colorado when he was 3 1/2, first Denver, then Castle Rock. Mark had been a resident of Castle Rock since 1970.
He attended the University of Northern Colorado from 1974-'78, graduating with a BS in administration, accounting and finance. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, where he was a highly regarded leader and made many good friends. While at UNC, he also met the love of his life, Sandi McIntosh. They married in 1979 and recently celebrated 41 years of marriage.
Mark had an incredibly rich life full of work, play, laughter and love. In his young adult years, he was a talented general contractor who built homes in the Castle Rock area, including his own residences. Well-known throughout Douglas County and the Denver area for being an excellent businessman and community partner, Mark was better known as a friendly, kind person who could make even a stranger feel welcome. He was a dedicated son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather and friend. Many consider themselves blessed and better people for having known him.
Avid explorers, Mark and Sandi traveled extensively locally and worldwide. Mark loved the beach and ocean as well as the mountains and snow, and he made the most of all seasons and opportunities. He enjoyed many vacations over the years with family and friends at Lake Powell.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Anita (2006) and Jim (2011). He will be greatly missed by his wife and best friend, Sandi; sons, Kyle (Becky) and Blake (Chelsea); and six beloved grandchildren: Caden, Colton, Bailey, Collier, Lilah and Brinley. He will live on in the hearts of his six siblings and in-laws, numerous extended family members and hundreds of friends.
Mark's many accomplishments included the places he traveled, the groups he belonged to, and the awards he won. However, the most important aspect of his life was his incredibly strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He was an excellent example of grace and love. He lived his faith to the fullest and spread peace and friendship wherever he journeyed.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:21
