Maria Gloriana "Gloria" Sanchez Saiz passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, in Denver, Colorado, at the age of 86. Surrounded by the love of her family and sustained by her deep faith, she entered into eternal rest with the Lord.
Gloria was born on August 5, 1939, and was raised in the close-knit community of Arroyo Seco near Taos, New Mexico. Those early years shaped the woman she would become. She helped her family with cooking, cleaning, hauling water, and caring for the animals and crops, learning the values of hard work, humility, and service that remained with her throughout her life.
After graduating from high school in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Gloria married the love of her life, Elex Lucero Saiz. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and love, and were blessed with three children: Michael, Christopher, and Cynthia (Cyndi).
Gloria was a devoted wife and mother who lovingly guided her family through every season of life. Whether she was taking her children to swimming lessons and baseball games, volunteering at church, or simply making a warm and welcoming home, she found joy in caring for those she loved. She had a quiet gift for serving others, always placing their needs before her own with kindness, grace, and humility.
As a military family, the Saizes were fortunate to call many places home. Their journey took them to El Paso, Texas; Sanders, Arizona; Key West, Florida; Okinawa, Japan; and Bitburg, Germany, before settling in Albuquerque, New Mexico, following Elex's retirement from military service in 1978. Though military life brought frequent moves and many changes, Gloria met each new adventure with remarkable resilience. She embraced every opportunity to travel, experience new cultures, and form lasting friendships wherever life took them.
Gloria was an excellent student, a dedicated medical office assistant, a devoted Catholic, and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She treasured her brothers and sisters and delighted in gathering with her large extended family. Holidays, reunions, and camping trips were filled with delicious food, joyful laughter, and memories that will be cherished for generations.
Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved siblings: Priscilla, Adela, Eufie, Eloida, Ruth, Elsa, Frutoso (Jerry), Joe, Ernest, Agapito, Eloy, and Lucy.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Cyndi and her partner, Lorri; her son Michael and his wife, Heidi; her son Christ and his wife, Denise; and her beloved grandchildren, Angela and Andy. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness and gentle spirit.
Gloria's unwavering faith sustained her throughout her life, and we take comfort in knowing she now rests in God's eternal peace. Though she will be deeply missed, her love, compassion, quiet strength, and enduring example of selfless service will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of Gloria's life will be held at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 8301 Camino San Martin SW, Albuquerque NM 87121, on Friday July 24, 2026 at 10:00 am MDT.
