Lawrence Alfs

February 3, 1955 — August 31, 2020

Our family and friends lost a remarkably wonderful man on Monday, August 31, 2020 when Lawrence (Larry) Edward Alfs of Centennial, CO passed away while at his home at the age of sixty-five.

Larry loved his family tremendously and unconditionally, and our loss is tempered by the sure knowledge that God has reunited him with his adored wife, Victoria Jo, who predeceased him in 2016.

Larry is survived by his son Jeremiah Alfs, daughters Jennifer (Jennie) Alfs, Tracy (Dan) Otten, and grandchildren Charlie Sims and Kiley Otten. Larry is also survived by his sister, Shari Cunningham, and a host of nieces, nephews, and their families. He is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Melba Alfs, and sister Laura Wheeler. In 2018, Larry was blessed to be reunited with his daughter, Tracy, who had been placed in the loving adoptive home of Bud and Sharon Sims in St. Louis in 1974. Larry and Tracy immediately developed a close, loving family relationship that included her husband, his son-in-law, Dan and grandchildren Charlie and Kiley.

Larry had a vital, robust spirit, and a hearty laugh that could be heard from far away. He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures the most: his children and grandchildren, family visits, long conversations on the patio, Imo's Pizza, Gus' Pretzels, extra sweet iced tea, lemon Bundt cake, British baking shows (or any British show really), scenic rides through the mountains, airplanes, the West Wing, black and white movies, mid-west thunderstorms, and playing the organ. Most probably in about that order. Larry didn't dislike many things, but those who knew him would admit that spiders and vegetables topped that list.

Larry was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 3, 1955 and graduated from St. Louis University High School in 1973. He moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1974 to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. It was there he met his treasured wife Vickie. They married on March 19, 1977. In 1990, the family re-located to Colorado where Larry had a successful career in the aviation business for many years.

Larry's legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of his children and grandchildren especially, but also in those whose lives he touched by his gentle nature, affection, and generosity.

A celebration of life will be held in St. Louis, MO. The date is to be determined.

If you wish, and in lieu of flowers, please kindly donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Vickie and Larry were dedicated to St. Jude's mission and made monthly donations for many years.
