Judith “Judy” S. Sweet, 77, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, at Charter Senior Living in Hermitage, Tennessee.
Judy was born on December 27, 1948, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to Bernice Langwith and Dr. John Allen Selvidge. She graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1966 before attending the University of Missouri–Columbia, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1970.
On March 27, 1970, Judy married the love of her life, Perry Scott Sweet, in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1976, they made their home in Old Hickory, Tennessee, where together they built a life filled with laughter, love, faith, and cherished memories. Judy was a devoted wife, a deeply loving mother to her two children, Benjamin Sweet and Victoria (Sweet) Caflisch, and a proud grandmother whose greatest joy was her family.
Judy dedicated her life to serving others through both education and her faith. She taught elementary school in Sullivan, Missouri, as well as at Lakeview Elementary and Davidson Academy, where she inspired and encouraged countless students throughout her career. Her kindness, patience, and unwavering belief in every child left a lasting impact on generations of families.
Her faith was the foundation of her life. As a devoted member of Hermitage United Methodist Church, Judy faithfully served her church community with generosity and a servant’s heart. Her legacy lives on through the lives she shaped as a teacher, the faith she exemplified, and the family she loved so deeply.
Judy is lovingly survived by her husband of 56 years, Perry Sweet of Old Hickory, Tennessee; her daughter, Victoria Caflisch (Eric) of Portsmouth, Virginia; her son, Benjamin Sweet (Courtney) of Kansas City, Missouri; her three beloved grandchildren, Gunnar Caflisch, Stella Caflisch, and Caroline Sweet; niece, Leah Selvidge (Nigel Smith); nephew Kenneth Selvidge, Jr. (Angelica)
She was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth (Ken) Allen Selvidge; her mother, Bernice Ferguson Langwith; and her father, Dr. John Allen Selvidge.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Judy’s honor.
