Joseph Wood

Joseph Mills Wood of Denver passed away at his home on Monday the 17th of September at the age of 75 surrounded by family. Joe was born and raised in Denver, attended Wyman Elementary, Morey Jr. High and East High School. Joe graduated with an accounting degree from Denver University and was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He received his CPA certification in 1965 and started his own accounting business. He continued to work up until his death.

Joe's life as an accountant kept him exceptionally busy, especially during tax season, but during the off season, he loved playing poker with the guys, was an avid fisherman and spent time with family and friends throughout the US and Canada.

He was married for 35 years to his loving wife Mary Lou. They both loved river rafting, hot air ballooning, and salmon fishing in Alaska.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou of Denver; his two children Alysun and Buddy Shanks of Clyde, TX and Gordon and Rae Wood of Scottsdale, AZ; three step sons, Marcus Brogan of Long Beach, CA, Larry Brogan of Denver and Michael and Missy Smith of Littleton; along with 2 granddaughters Amanda and Marisa Wood, and three step grandchildren.

He was a wonderful father, husband, friend and role model and will be extremely missed by his wife, family and friends.

Private services will be held.
