IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John William
Hogan
May 28, 1937 – January 8, 2026
John William Hogan (88) passed away on January 8, 2026. He passed peacefully in his home overlooking a beautiful snow-covered mountain and in the arms of his surviving children in Tesuque, New Mexico. Also by his side was his friend, Steve Jiminez. He was born May, 1937 in Delhi, Louisiana to Earnest J. Hogan and Nancy Brewer Hogan.
He was an artist of fine art and his career includes such credentials as a B.S. in Fine Arts from Louisiana State College, a Master of Arts degree from New Mexico Highlands, various awards, exhibitions in the Southwest as well as abroad, and several teaching posts, such as being a Professor of Art at the University of Texas at El Paso in the 70’s. His art was represented in many private and corporate collections, with some of his art currently on display at the Glenn Green Gallery in Tesuque and the Hat Ranch Gallery in Santa Fe. In addition to his impressive credentials, he was a student, art director, layout artist, curator of the El Paso Museum of Art, ran his own studio, built houses, and was even a caretaker of a county park in El Paso, Texas. He was married to Martha Campos Hogan, raised three children, divorced, remarried to Celia Montrose Hogan. He was a grandfather of 4, a great-grandfather of 9, and great-great grandfather of 2. His happy place was his mountain home/art studio, making art and sharing a story or two with his many dear friends.
His legacy will live on in his art and in the beautiful memories that he will leave in the hearts of all those that knew him. He is survived by his first wife, Martha Campos Hogan, his daughter Denise Pacheco (Jorge) and “kid” John P. Hogan (Dolores), his grandchildren: Melissa Cedillo Arroyos, Michael Pacheco, Joseph Pacheco, and Alex G. Jimenez, 10 great and great-great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his best friend Jerry West and many other dear and longtime friends and students. He is preceded in death by his daughter Ana Lynn Hogan Cedillo, second wife Celia Montrose Hogan and great-grandson Ramon Cedillo.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Steve and Eileen for always being there for him. Also, thank you to Hospice of Presbyterian Hospital staff for their caring ways and to the many friends that were always there with many kind acts of love and so many kind words. At his request, there will be no funeral services but a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
