Jeffrey Coats Mathis

Sep 30, 1958 — Oct 17, 2026

Castle Rock, Colorado

Jeff was born September 30, 1958, to Ann Coats Mathis and James Ronald Mathis in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Childhood years included baseball, football, guitar, and many road trips along Highway 66. He was a proud Putnam West Patriot, graduating with the class of 1976. Then came attendance at Oklahoma State University, followed by a move to Golden, Colorado in 1978. Soon afterward, any loyalties to Oklahoma State were replaced by a deep loyalty to the University of Oklahoma, whom he passionately championed for the remainder of his life.

Another passion of Jeff’s was cars. He soon found employment with Gebhardt Motors in Boulder. Eventually, he transitioned from dealerships to auto parts, the last 14 years being spent at O’Reilly’s. Jeff was over the wholesale division of his particular store, developing and maintaining relationships with those he served. His highly principled work ethic, perfectionism, and love for people, all made for a reputation that preceded him wherever he went.

In 1990, Jeff married Barbara Sue Maxfield, the love of his life. They found deep joy in simply being together! Supporting one another in their respective professions, they also placed a life-long priority on the people who comprised their community of friends and family. From the start, the foundation of their marriage has been their mutual faith in Jesus Christ and the hope of heaven.

Jeff is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Delbert Eugene Maxfield. He is survived by wife Barb, sister Corinne (Gary) Strat, niece Hilary (Ethan) Morgan, great nephews Cade and Wyatt, nephew Jonathan (Kimmy) Strat, great nephew Rowan and great niece Marlowe. He is also survived by father-in-law Delbert Clarence Maxfield, brother-in-law Matthew Hergert, niece Alexis Maxfield, nephew-in-law Amin Kalantarifard, and great nephew Iver Kalantarifard, and dear friends.
