James Stoetzel, age 90, died peacefully with his children by his side at Harvard Square Retirement Community in Denver, Colorado, Tuesday, May 9, 2023. Born in Milwaukee, WI, Jim’s family moved about during WW II. He graduated from Washington Community High School, Washington, Illinois in 1950. Jim attended the University of Illinois in Champaign where he met his wife, Alice Ann Snyder. They married in 1952. Jim and Ann moved to Chicago where he attended the University of Illinois College of Medicine, graduating in 1957. With Ann, and now two young children, he took an internship at St Joseph Hospital in Flint, Michigan. From there, Jim spent 2 years with the U.S. Public Health Service as a Senior Assistant Surgeon at the Walker River Indian Hospital, Schurz, Nevada, where their third child was born. In 1960, they moved to Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, where he practiced general medicine and had their fourth child. He retired in 1990, moving to Sun City Oro Valley, Arizona. He and Ann spent 24 years enjoying the southwest. They moved to Harvard Square Retirement Community in April of 2014. He was preceded in death by Ann and is survived by their four children, Dave and wife Debbie of Whidbey Island, Washington, Lynn and husband Ace McCann of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Deb and husband Earl Smith of Marienthal, Kansas, and Melissa and husband Aboo Rawat of Buffalo, Wyoming. He has 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He had a good life and will be sorely missed.
