Jacob Lucero

Jacob Ronald Lucero, 63, a resident of Velarde, NM, passed away from natural causes in his home on September 30, 2025. Jacob was born February 25, 1962, in Dixon, NM to Beatrice and Gerson Lucero. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Inez; brother, Pablo Lucero; niece, Danielle Beatrice Lucero; and nephew, Antonio T-Bone Vasquez.

Jacob Ronald is survived by his son, Shaymen Carillo of Salt Lake City, UT, brothers, Amos Lucero and Andy Lucero; sister, Priscilla C. Lucero all of Salt Lake City, UT. Many nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and a close friend, Carmen Sedillo of Espanola, NM and his precious dogs and companions, Roxy, Lucky, Princess and Rocky.

Jacob walked a difficult path and faced many challenges, but he never lost the essence of who he was to those who loved him. He will be remembered for his smile, infectious laugh, and a resilient spirit that never gave up, even when it seemed all was lost. He had a way of seeing the best in people even when he was not always greeted with the same and a generosity that showed itself in small, meaningful ways. Though life was complicated, Jacob deeply loved his family, especially his mother that was always on his mind as he visited her resting place often. Jacob lived in Salt Lake City, UT most of his life and the remainder in Velarde, NM. Jacob found joy in working on cars when he had one and driving around the small towns of northern NM, walking in the mountains, along the road or anywhere he wanted to travel. He loved going fishing in the Rio Grande, often seen walking with his fishing rod and his dogs by his side. He was always protective and loving, especially to animals and was a person who always helped when he could. Jacob will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Burial information is pending. Jacob’s ashes will be laid to rest with his mother at the Velarde Cemetery. The family of Jacob Ronald Lucero has entrusted the care of their loved one to CremateSimply of Santa Fe, NM.
