J. Hellman

May 24, 1943 — September 26, 2020

On Saturday afternoon, September 26, 2020, J. Peter Hellman, died in his home in Denver at the age of 77 after living with brain cancer since late 2019.

Peter was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1943 to Petrus and Nathalie and immigrated to the United States when he was seven. He graduated from Stanford University where he earned a degree in economics and received a master's degree from the University of Denver Daniels College of Business.

A lover of golf, hiking, skiing and seeing the world, Peter was an active and animated person who shared his passion for (and occasional misadventures in) the outdoors with his family and friends. He had a sharp and nuanced sense of humor and brought ease to those around him.

Peter was a successful business leader, entering the travel business in 1978 and navigating his company through an industry that was rapidly transforming at the behest of the internet. During his time in the industry, he was on the board of directors for the Better Business Bureau of Colorado, was President of Skal International Colorado for 2 years and was a proud member for decades.

It was through the travel industry that he met his loving wife Claudia. Together they ran Spirit of Travel and Classic Golf Tours for 16 years. After they sold Spirit of Travel in 2016, Peter continued arranging golf tours at Classic Golf Tours until June 2020.

He will be loved, missed and remembered by his wife of 26 years Claudia; children: Erik, Reid (from marriage to Madie) and Paige; granddaughter Tecla; siblings: Merit, Eleonor, Hans and Ann; and many other family members and friends.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Petrus and Nathalie and his sister Katherine.

He will be interred at Fort Logan. Due to COVID-19, a celebration of his life will be held in 2021. Details to follow at a later date.
