Gordon Jack

Roma Charlene Montgomery Jack, the first of four children born to Robert and Lula Montgomery on January 11, 1926 passed from this earth on November 29, 2015. Her husband, Gordon Claire Jack born on December 8, 1926 to Cecil and Beulah Jack left our presence on March 8, 2016, after over 69 years of wedlock. They were childhood sweethearts, having known each other since kindergarten both graduating from Corydon High School in 1944. Gordon enlisted in the navy in WWII and served aboard the USS Miami. While he served, Roma worked at Grismore's Jewelry Store and awaited Gordon's safe return. They were married in a small, intimate ceremony at Roma's grandparent's home August 25, 1946 and their only child, Vickie Rene'e, was born that next year. Both Vickie, and later her only son, Bryan, would be the source of great pride for Gordon and Roma.

The couple made their home in Corydon, Iowa, where Gordon worked as a mechanic for his father, Cecil. In 1960 they moved to Arvada Colorado, where they lived until the fall of 2010 when they moved to Colorado Springs due to declining health and to be nearer Vickie.

Roma was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law and friend. She adored children and animals and loved being a homemaker using her crafty skills and delicious cooking (oh, her wonderful green chili!) to make the family home a very worm and loving place. She was known to all as an incredible seamstress - making everything from dolls to prom dresses including most all of Vickie's wardrobe growing up. You were always welcome in her home where her sweet nature prevailed. She loved music and champagne and with her lifelong partner, Gordon, made quite a swath across the dance room floor. Her greatest joy came from supporting her husband, daughter and grandson.

We will remember her for her unconditional love, her gracious hospitality, her unwavering stability and support and her unselfishness to put family and friends before herself. Our lives are richer for having crossed paths with her.

Gordon was a "fixer" of anything and everything but especially cars. Gordon's mother would often comment that at a very young age, he could be found in his sandbox dismantling anything and everything that came his way. Thus, we see that his gift for the mechanical was evident at a very young age. He was called Gismo in High School by his buddies.

Cars played a prominent role throughout his life and were a part of nearly every position he held. He retired from Arrow Automotive Industries in 1994.

He was a collector, first of Corvairs , then knives and lastly bicycles all of which he refurbished, then sold, traded or gave to a charity, Jenny's Kids or to adults and kids in the neighborhood . He was happiest working with his hands and tinkering in his workshop.

He will be remembered as the man who loved hobbies. And always lending a helping hand to the neighbors, the handy man who could fix anything, who loved Wheaties for breakfast and dark chocolate and anything with wheels be it go-carts, unicycles, bicycles, roller skates or cars.

Roma and Gordon spent over 69 years as husband and wife and left this earth just one hundred days apart. They have left us with so many wonderful memories of time spent with them over holidays, weddings, graduations, anniversaries and other social gatherings. They have left our presence but they will continue to live on in our hearts and memories.

They are survived by their daughter Vickie and her husband, Sonny, grandson Bryan Lewis and his wife, Liz and four children, Sabrina, River, Canyon, Creed, sister/sister-in-law Sharon, and her husband Bill and numerous nieces and nephews, sister-in-law as well as many other loved ones and friends.
