Gordon Lee Dougan

Sunrise: November 5, 1942     Sunset: June 2, 2021

Gordon Lee, a loving father, brother, son, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2021 at Julia Temple Care Facility in Englewood, Colorado with his daughter Yvette and his favorite friend Chaplain Diane by his side.

Born in Denver, Colorado to Irene (1993) and Gordon BW "Doug" (1997) Dougan.

He proudly served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps from 1961 to 1966 as a Radio Relay Operator in Vietnam.

Throughout his life, he wore many hats and travelled great distances. He made many friends along the way and was always willing to help a stranger in need. We will miss his storytelling the most of all; he had the best campfire stories!

Gordon is survived by his daughters: Tina Dougan and grandchildren Tyffany, Teya and Trinity of Arizona; Yvette (Dale) King and grandchildren Cody, Dalton and Chloe Madison of Colorado; Charlotte (Patrick) Means of Idaho and grandchildren Whitney (Brian) Daly and great granddaughter Neveah of Wyoming, PFC Jeriah (Dezirae) Means and great grandson Declan of Germany, Samantha (Zach) Plencner of Nevada, and Mason of Idaho; His sister Linda (Bart) Lang and great nieces Madison, Chloe and Sierra of California; and numerous extended family throughout the states.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Norma Jean (2000), his great niece PFC Tiffany Dawn (2006) and his niece Jacquline.

Full military honors will be provided on Tuesday July 6, 2021 at 11 AM at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado where his ashes will be interned.

There will be a repast luncheon at American Legion Post 1, 5400 E Yale Ave, Denver immediately following the service.

Eternity (a poem by Gordon Lee, 6/29/05)

Upon your death what will you be,

what plans have you made for eternity,

To be placed in a casket and dark hole to rot,

Is this eternity, I think not,

Have them put me in the furnace to burn,

Then place my ashes in an urn,

Remember it is "ashes to ashes and dirt to dirt",

My living vessel is finished; so it will not hurt,

Do not put me on the mantle high,

Where someone mourns as they pass by,

Keep me around awhile if you must,

But not so long as to cause the urn to rust,

Take me to a mountain high,

and toss my ashes into the sky,

In Colorado on the Grand Mesa is the place,

around Leon Lakes mountain space,

Let the wind carry me where they may,

And I will live another day,

Remember where you set me free,

It's in that area I will always be,

Come visit me when you need to talk,

Tho you may not recognize me as you walk,

Eternity to has a special need,

That I fertilize and become one with a seed,

I may be a tree in the forest very tall,

Or maybe a wild flower in a field very small,

If I'm a flower I'll wave to you upon the breeze,

If I'm a tree i'll talk with the rustle of the leaves,

And every year I'll come anew,

And hope you come by and visit too,

Leave my name up on this mountaintop,

So all can see what I've become when they stop,

When my ancestral's come to visit me there,

Have them listen for me upon the air,

This is the way I want it to be,

This is my idea of ETERNITY.
