Frederick William “Rick” Masek passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, after a long illness, surrounded by the love of his wife, Sally, and their three daughters, Wendy, Karen, and Margaret (Peggy).
Born in New York City and raised in Chatham, New Jersey, Rick was the beloved son of Esther McGuire Masek and Fred E. Masek, and the cherished brother of Cathy. He spent many joyful years in Syracuse, New York, where he found great happiness in the natural beauty of Green Lakes State Park. Summers were especially treasured at Saranac Lake, where he enjoyed fishing, hiking, camping, boating, and making memories with family.
Rick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. His early career took him across the country as a traveling salesman in industrial sales. He later found deep fulfillment helping others discover their paths while working in job placement. After moving to Castle Rock, Colorado in 1991, Rick founded a successful handyman business, combining his skills and passion for home improvement. Renovating houses and enhancing properties brought him great joy and a sense of purpose.
Rick is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Sally Masek; his daughters Wendy Bramley, Karen Etchells, and Peggy Masek; and his son-in-law Simon Etchells. He was a proud grandfather to Connor Bramley, Emily Schreiner and her spouse Taylor Schreiner, and Liam Bramley. He is also survived by his sister Cathy Graves and brother-in-law Richard Graves, as well as his nieces and nephews Bill Graves and wife Susan Foster, Lauren Sherwood, and Nick Sherwood. He will be fondly remembered by his extended family, including brother-in-law Douglas Clark and sister-in-law Helle Clark; brother-in-law Richard Cartun and sister-in-law Ellen Cartun; sister-in-law Jane Cockrel; and many more nieces and nephews.
Rick will be remembered for his kindness, his quiet strength, and his love for nature and family. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, generosity, and a life well lived.
