Eleanor Tobiassen

Aurora, Colorado

Eleanor Denning Tobiassen of Aurora, Colorado passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside at age 95 on September 25th 2021. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 45 years, Thomas O. Tobiassen, her sisters Teresa Perella, Charlotte Drescher and brothers Joseph, Jack and Robert. She is survived by her sister Mary Kohlschreiber of Palm Beach, FL, her children Thomas Tobiassen (wife Carol), Robert Tobiassen (wife Julie), William Tobiassen (wife Virginia) and Marianne Ignar (husband Robert), five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was born in Philadelphia, PA to Joseph Edmund and Anna Morris Denning, attended West Philadelphia Catholic Girls High School graduating in 1944 and was married in Philadelphia in 1951. Eleanor and Thomas settled in Totowa, NJ where they raised their four children until her retirement from Ricoh Corporation. Eleanor was well loved in her Totowa neighborhood, always on the go, doing the things that great Moms do. In 1993 Eleanor and Thomas moved to Palm Harbor, FL. Eleanor was very active in her community, volunteering for Neighborhood Watch, a local hospice and a museum. She took up golf at age 70 and became passionate about playing several times a week. She also enjoyed shopping, sewing, swing dancing, swimming and international travel with her husband and friends. In 2013, Eleanor moved to Aurora, CO to be close to family and made many new friends while living at Heather Gardens and the Cherry Creek Retirement Village. A devout Catholic, Eleanor worshipped at St James Church in Totowa, St Luke the Evangelist Church in Palm Harbor and St Michael the Archangel Church in Aurora.

A graveside celebration of life will be held a Curlew Hills Cemetery in Palm Harbor, FL on a date to be determined. Remembrance donations can be made to support women’s equity at AAUW.org
