Edward Hubert Stammel

It is with great sadness that the family of Edward H. Stammel, Jr. shares the news of his passing on August 23, 2026. Ed now rests in the Kingdom of Heaven with his beloved wife, Jill, who lost her battle with Alzheimer's earlier this year. Ed will be remembered by all who knew him for his wonderfully sarcastic sense of humor, his generosity, and his hardworking, organized nature.

Born and raised in Hicksville, New York, Ed was the oldest of four children and the son of a Lutheran minister. He was known for his quick wit, sharp intelligence, and love of cars, scotch, and his family. Upon graduating from high school, he left Long Island for Valparaiso University in Indiana. On his very first day, assigned seating by last name placed Mr. Stammel next to Miss Stickford — a beautiful girl he knew right away he had to meet. It wasn't long before he realized she was the one. They married on August 10, 1963, moved back to Long Island, and embarked on a long and adventurous journey together, welcoming four wonderful children along the way.

Ed's career in the insurance business took the family to Kansas City, then Buffalo, New York, and finally to Littleton, Colorado, where they settled in 1979. Retirement came in his late fifties, and Ed and Jill happily embraced this new chapter of life. Those closest to him were delighted to watch Ed become a golf-loving, sociable, and active retiree. Ed and Jill found wonderful friends in their community at Pinehurst Country Club in Denver and Rio Verde in Arizona, spending countless hours playing golf, building meaningful relationships, and enjoying their free time together. Before Alzheimer's slowed Jill down, the two traveled extensively, often revisiting the towns they once called home and reconnecting with friends and family along the way.

Ed and Jill later moved to Holly Creek during the difficult years of Jill's illness. There, Ed quickly became the person everyone turned to — always ready to fix something, move something, or help sort through finances. Over his nine years at Holly Creek, he was a blessing to countless residents and will be missed more than words can say. His life was full, and his kindness touched more people than we can count.

Ed is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jill, and his second son, Michael. He is survived by his three remaining children: Ed Stammel III and his wife JoJo; Matt Stammel and his wife Melissa; and Julie Bailey and her husband Matt. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Natalee, Aubrey, Bridget, Max, Luke, and Kate.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Capper Foundation in Topeka, Kansas. Ed's second son, Michael, who lived with Cerebral Palsy, attended the Capper school, and Ed deeply admired and appreciated all the organization did for Mike and so many others.

A service celebrating Ed's life will be held on Monday, September 21 at 4:00 p.m. at Our Father Lutheran Church, 6335 South Holly Street, Centennial, CO 80121. A gathering will follow at Holly Creek Retirement Center, 5500 E Peakview Ave, Centennial, CO 80121. All who knew and loved Ed are warmly invited to join in celebrating his life.
