With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Edna Luedecke King on February 20, 2026, at the age of 99. Edna departed this world surrounded by the love and care of her family and the dedicated staff at the care facility where she had resided. Her journey began on December 16, 1926, in the humble town of Eldorado, Texas, born to John Herbert Luedecke and Lizzie Octavia Smith Luedecke. Edna was a beacon of strength and grace, whose life was a testament to hard work, love, and unwavering faith. She began her career in nursing through the Cadet Nursing Corps at the end of World War II, dedicating 35 years to the healthcare field. Starting as an LPN, she later achieved her RN degree from New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, NM. Her compassion and commitment to her patients left an indelible mark on every life she touched. On January 17, 1974, Edna married Neal Delton King, with whom she shared 37 beautiful years until his passing. Together, they founded a successful surveying business in Hobbs, New Mexico, showcasing their shared devotion and partnership. Edna was a loving mother to her children: Theresa "Reese" and Richard Roth, Tommy and Tina Lehman, Alice Bowles, Steve and Sharon King, and Marisa and Mike Kersh. Her legacy lives on through her 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her values of kindness and integrity. A devout Baptist throughout her life, Edna's faith was her guiding light. She demonstrated her love for others through her handmade crochet items and delicious homemade bread, gifts that brought joy and comfort to her community. Her culinary talents were recognized nationally when she proudly won 3rd place in the 1980 National Beef Cookoff. Edna also cherished moments spent crocheting and fishing with a simple cane pole, finding peace and fulfillment in life's simple pleasures. Edna was predeceased by her parents, John and Lizzie Luedecke, her brothers Alvin and John Luedecke, her sisters Elta Redford, Sammye Pruett, Thelia "Nook" Mayo, Corene Draper, and Alma Corbell, her beloved husband Neal King, her son Ben Doty Jr., stepson Richard King, and stepdaughter Julia King. Despite the multitude of losses, Edna's strength and resilience never wavered, serving as an inspiration to her family and friends. A service celebrating Edna's remarkable life will be held on March 21, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Hagerman, NM Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor a life filled with love, service, and devotion. The family would like to extend a special message of love to Marisa, Ricky Del, Daniel and Tim King, Mariah Alford, and Candi and Kurtis Homer, for their countless visits to Denver over the 14 years Edna lived there. These visits were precious to Edna, bringing her immense joy and comfort. Edna Luedecke King leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering faith. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. As we celebrate her life, we find solace in knowing that she is now at peace, embraced by the love of those who went before her.
