Edith Mcclure-Carlson

September 22, 1940 — December 24, 2022

Castle Rock, CO

Edith (Edie) Marie McClure, age 82, passed away on December 24, 2022, at her home in Castle Rock, Colorado.

Edie was born on September 22nd, 1940, in Twin Bridges, Montana to Cecil L. McClure and Bertha D. Best(née Edwards). Edie was their only child. Her parents owned and operated the Falcon Theater in Twin Bridges during her childhood.  Working at the concession counter, cleaning, and eventually running the projector gave rise to a lifetime love of the movies.

After graduating from Twin Bridges High School in 1958, Edie moved to nearby Butte, Montana where she attended the former Butte Business College.  While in Butte, she was baptized at St. Patrick Catholic Church and soon volunteered at Saint Mary’s Mission in Akulurak, Alaska.  From there, and having discerned her call, Edie was received as a postulant with the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, Kansas. After serving her novitiate, she declined vows in hopes of someday having a family.

Edie returned to her native Montana in 1965.  She married David R. Carlson on October 7th, 1967, at the Cathedral of St. Helena. They had two children, Scott A. Carlson and Beth A. Carlson-Knapp and raised their family near Clancy. In 2001, Edie moved to Parker, Colorado to be near her daughter.

Edie worked most of her life as a caregiver to the elderly and the mentally disabled. She enjoyed the outdoors and was particularly fond of fishing, especially for trout. She cherished the company of her dogs, cat, and parakeets. She also became an avid Broncos football fan late in her life. She wouldn’t answer the phone if the game was on.

Edie was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her son Scott (Nancy) Carlson of Claridon, Ohio and her daughter Beth (Steve) Knapp (née Carlson) of Littleton, Colorado. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Anna (Khyrul) Khan (née Carlson) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,  Megan Vanderhoff of Littleton, Colorado,  Abigail Carlson of Washington D.C., and Nickolas Vanderhoff of Denver, Colorado.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

Edie requested cremation and that no services be held in her memory.
