Earl & Nancy Weinkauf

Earl Edward Weinkauf was born in Edgar. WI, in 1932, to Carl and Amelia Weinkauf  Initially named Erwin, he was baptized Earl which allowed him to legally change his name after he was told that Earl was not his real name.  (It was a big surprise to him).  He was named “our troublemaker” by his high school class and, after graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force.  He was stationed in Japan during the Korean War.  After he returned home, he admitted to his mother that it was nice to eat a meal that didn’t require ketchup to make it palatable.  She thought it was so funny, she shared that sentiment with almost everyone in town.  Eventually he found himself in Salt Lake City where his friend, Glen, introduced him to Glen’s sister, Nancy, even though Glen didn’t think Earl was Nancy’s type.  Nancy Anne Flyr was born in Casper, WY, in 1939, to Henry and Marie Flyr.  She and Earl met in February, became engaged in March, and were married in June of that year.  They eventually settled in Centennial, CO, where Nancy taught piano, rang bells, and volunteered as the elementary school nurse and Earl worked for Mountain Bell until he retired.   Both were active in the church where Earl was an usher and Nancy rang bells.  Nancy passed away on 10 Oct 2020, after a battle with cancer.  Earl joined her on 23 August 2021, after fighting dementia.  They are survived by their three daughters, Laura (Todd) Dissinger, Dian Weinkauf, and Marla (Matt) Ricketts, and their  grandson, Karl Dissinger.  They will be laid to rest in the columbarium at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Littleton, CO.  Donations may be made to a no-kill cat shelter or breast cancer charity of your choice or to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
