Douglas Wayne Reed, loving husband, wise father, and awesome grand-dude, passed away on August 7th at home in Denver, CO, after a battle with colon cancer. Although he was born in Puerto Rico in 1956 and will tell you he is boricua, he was really a Kansas farm boy. He was raised by Estelle and Harold Reed on a small farm near Lyons, KS, and graduated from Kansas State’s landscape architecture program.
Doug married Debbie, his partner in adventure, in 1980 and they immediately moved to Denver. Doug worked as a Landscape Architect and Planner throughout his career. Doug loved to travel, visit breweries, and enjoy the outdoors through mountain biking, camping, and other activities. He taught many to ski, hiked all 54 fourteeners in Colorado, hiked the Colorado Trail, and planned 10th Mountain backcountry ski trips. Doug could always tell an amusing and slightly exaggerated story. He is survived by his wife, Debbie; son, Nick (Lauren); daughter, Lindsey (Chris); grandchildren Nolan, Kaia, and Leo; his mother, Estelle; and sisters Kay and Ellen (Bill).
Friends and family are welcome to celebrate his life at First Mennonite Church of Denver, 430 W. 9th Ave., Denver, on August 19th at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can go to: Rocky Mt. Mennonite Camp or Colorado Trail Foundation.
