Donald Shurgot

It is with extremely deep sorrow that we announce the death of Donald “Don” Stephen Shurgot of Centennial, Colorado, who passed away on March 10, 2023, at the age of 79, surrounded by some of his loved ones. Don had such a big heart and was amazingly creative, he will be missed and remembered by the many lives he touched.

Don was born on September 7, 1943, to Stephen and Nellie “Stella” Shurgot, in Rochester, New York.

After graduating from Charlotte High School in 1962, Don attended RIT and graduated with a degree in Business Management. In 1965, Don married his high school sweetheart, Susan “Sue” (DeFoy) Shurgot, and they enjoyed a beautiful life together as best friends and soul mates for almost 58 years.

Don and Sue were blessed to have two children who miss him dearly, Steve Shurgot (Lisa) and Lori Hale (Kurt); five grandchildren who loved and adored him, Ashley Evans (Adam), Kody Hale (Savannah), Rachel Shurgot, Mitchel Shurgot, and Hannah Shurgot; and nine great grandchildren who were blessed to have him in their lives.

Don loved his entire family and is survived by his sister, Joan (Shurgot) Wingate, his brother-in-law, Ken Wingate, and his sister-in-law, Judie (DeFoy) Conover, and many nieces and nephews.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, brother Mitchell Shurgot, and his nephew Kevin Wingate.

Don loved golfing, traveling to Puerto Vallarta with his wife, Sue, and woodworking. He created many “treasures” such as baby cradles, jewelry boxes, furniture and so much more for family members throughout the years.  He was extremely skillful with his hands and could always be counted on to help fix, repair, or build almost anything.

Don’s Celebration of Life will be held on April 16, 2023, at Heritage Greens Community Room, 4814 E Links Cir. Centennial, Colorado.  Please join his family for an open house between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM as we share memories and toast to Don.
