David William Woods

David ‘Dave’ William Woods of Boulder died June 29, 2026, after an illness. He was 74 years old. Dave was born to Harold Woods and Margaret Woods on October 19, 1951. Dave grew up in the Chicago area and graduated from St. Viator Catholic High School. Dave married Lynne (Gaberdiel) Woods on June 9, 1973, and they both graduated from Michigan State University the following day. Dave earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics. He went to work as an engineer and material tester at Owens Corning Fiberglass and then moved to Boulder to work at Hauser Laboratories, eventually running the laboratory division. He later worked for Microbac Laboratories, Jana Laboratories, and started his own company, Woods Scientific, LLC, sharing his expertise in plastic pipe manufacturing and failure analysis. When he had his consulting business, he was called on as an expert witness in many trials. He was a Fellow of the ASTM Committee F17 on Plastic Piping Systems and received several awards from the committee, including an Award of Merit, a Certificate of Appreciation, a Special Service Award, the Paul Finn Memorial Award, and the Frank W. Reinhart and Henry “Butch” Kuhlmann Award.

Dave taught Lynne to camp and backpack. He and Lynne raised two children, Gwen and Brian, and the family spent many days in the parks and wilderness of Colorado and the rest of the Mountain West. He loved to play Frisbee (disc) golf and even sought out courses while traveling and set up his own courses at home in Ohio and on the mountain in Colorado .

Dave is survived by his wife, Lynne, children Gwen and Brian, and daughter-in-law, Ning. He is also survived by his sister Barbara (Woods) Rosolino, his brothers-in-law Joseph Rosolino and James Hinckley, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Woods; sisters Patricia (Woods) Hinckley and Virginia (Woods) Oswald; and brother-in-law David Oswald.
