Dr. Carroll Roland, 82, of Breckenridge, Colorado, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, comforted by the presence of his family. Born January 8, 1944, in Woodlawn, California, he was the oldest of two children born to Carroll and Joice Lee (Lillard) Roland.
Carroll was a devoted partner, father, grandfather, and friend. He valued time spent with family above all else and took great pride in the lives and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed hiking, skiing, and riding all-terrain vehicles and motorcycles in the Rockies, as well as traveling, reading, watching movies, and being with those he loved. He will be remembered for his humor, wisdom, and spirited temperament.
Beyond his personal life, Dr. Roland was a licensed psychologist who dedicated more than four decades to the field of clinical psychology, maintaining a private practice in both Marshalltown and Waterloo, Iowa. Over the course of his career, he provided guidance, compassion, and support to countless individuals and families. He also worked at the Area Education Agency in Toledo and Marshalltown, Iowa. He served as a consultant for various healthcare delivery systems, the Waterloo and Cedar Falls Police and Fire Departments, nursing homes, and as an examiner for Social Security and vocational rehabilitation services. He also served honorably as a Sergeant in the Army, where he was stationed at Bremerhaven, Germany from 1970 to 1971.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Adams State College, a Master of Science degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, an Educational Specialist degree from the University of Iowa, a doctoral degree from Iowa State University, and completed postdoctoral training at Iowa State University and Northeast Missouri State University.
He is survived by his three children: Michelle O’Hegarty (Donncha) of Smyrna, Georgia; Rick Roland (Nicole) of Parker, Colorado; and Shawn Roland (Jacki) of Parker, Colorado; six grandchildren: Neil O’Hegarty, Hannah O’Hegarty, Ella O’Hegarty, Olivia Roland, Nora Roland, and Evan Roland; two nephews: Andrew Evans and Kyle Roland; and one niece: Amy Evans. Carroll was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Jamie Evans.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Breckenridge, Colorado, on May 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at his residence. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Carroll’s honor.
