Carl, 90, of Littleton, CO passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
Carl was born in Padang on the island of Sumatra in the Dutch East Indies (present day Indonesia), on November 27, 1934, to Johannes and Cecile (nee van Hall) de Rozario. Carl and his brothers Johny and Marten grew up in Bandung on the island of Java. He was educated in the Dutch school system of that time until the outbreak of World War II. With the coming of the war the Dutch school system was closed, and Japanese schools were opened in their place. Classes were resumed in the Japanese language, so learn it, he did! With the end of the war, and his father’s death because of it, Cecile was tasked with the support and education of her three sons. By 1949 the Netherlands transferred sovereignty over to the independent states of Indonesia, and being Dutch citizens the family had no other choice than to depart for Holland. Having finished his high school and college education in the Netherlands, Carl applied for immigration to the United States. Landing in March 1957 and having no idea where Denver was, he boarded a train and later arrived in a city where he made a life and career in machine design. In 1983 with a major project in Brazil he moved the family to The Woodlands, Texas and enjoyed many years in the Lone Star State. With retirement came a move back to the Denver area and the mountains and fishing streams that he so relished.
Carl was preceded in death by his father Johannes, his mother Cecile, his son Carl G, brother Johny, granddaughter Denice and granddaughter Carissa. He is survived, loved, and will be dearly missed by his wife Mary Jane, children, daughter-in-law Michele, Roger (Annette), Richard Penington, Kelly Born (Chris) and brother Marten (Chuck) 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren and many cousins in The Netherlands.
Carl’s strength was his Catholic faith, his US citizenship, and what he thought of as his amazing family
