Brenda Hudgens

July 16, 1952 — November 4, 2012

Brenda was born to AEIleen and Ray Thompson deceased on July 16, 1952 in Warsaw, Indiana. She was the second of six children. Her siblings David, Vicky, Shawn and Teresa remember her as a mother hen and someone who was always there for them. She is preceded in death by her sister, Alice Kay and step-dad Monte Speer, whom she doted on shamelessly. Brenda's mom AEIleen Speer lives in Vian, Oklahoma.
Her family moved around to various states in addition to Indiana, including Kansas, Oregon and Texas. As a child Brenda helped take care of her siblings, cooked meals and helped keep the kids out of trouble.
Some memories her brothers and sisters shared are….Brenda enjoyed aggravating her older brother David, then took off running when she saw he was good and mad. Alice Kay, Vicky and Shawn remember their sister as their watchful second mom, always alert to any mischief. Her baby sister Teresa was kept under Brenda's wing, always babied and protected.
She wasn't fond of school but got good grades, and later her G.E.D.
Comer and Brenda met at his parents' marina in Sheldon, Texas where she worked as a waitress. When Comer would try to give her a kiss, off she would go running away. Comer was finally able to catch her and soon they were high school sweethearts, and a year later husband and wife. They were married November 16th, 1968. Daughter Shannon was born in 1969, followed by Melissa in 1971 and Shelley in 1975.
Comer joined the Army in 1970 and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Later he joined the Navy and Brenda became a Navy wife, moving the family to many locations including Alaska, Spain, Virginia, and California to name a few. It was hard being a Navy wife, much of the time caring for her children and keeping the home running smoothly by herself for months at a time when Comer was at sea.
Brenda always enjoyed children and cared for babies and toddlers in her home for many years. Later she worked in day care in the baby room. She could figure out what a baby was crying about in 5 seconds flat, and enriched the lives of many children throughout the years. Her last place of employment was at Buckly AFB child care center, where she had many friends who were close to her heart.
Brenda is a grand-mother to six ages 23, 22, 21, 17, 11 and 6. She is a great grand-mother to Sarina Grace, age 2. She will be missed by everyone who shared in her life...her friends, family, grand children and especially her high-school sweetheart, Comer.
