Obituary

In loving memory of Bob G. Barnes, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on June 19, 2026, at the age of 89. Bob passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones, marking the end of a remarkable journey that began on November 16, 1936, in Roswell, New Mexico. Bob was the son of Robert and Ethel Barnes, whose love and guidance shaped him into the remarkable man we honor today. He spent his early years in Roswell, where his heart was filled with dreams that would eventually lead him to New Mexico State University. There, he earned a degree in accounting that would lay the foundation for a distinguished career. In 1960, Bob embarked on his professional journey with Dixon Paper Company in El Paso, Texas, where he worked for the next 30 years. During his tenure at Dixon, Bob was able to become an owner/partner and later Group Vice-President of Dixon. In 1993, Bob retired, went on to travel with wife, Jeannie. In 1994, Bob and Jeannie relocated to Elephant Butte, New Mexico and enjoyed many hours at the lake with friends and family. Bob and his councilors were instrumental in getting the city of Elephant Butte incorporated and went on to become the first mayor, serving for ten years. In 2004, the couple moved to Las Cruces and Bob volunteered as a docent at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum. Before long, he became President of the Friends of the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum. Bob's life was a tapestry woven with family, faith, and great friends. He was married to Jeannie (Fields), the love of his life, for 72 beautiful years, a partnership that was blessed with three children: Rob (and wife KayLee), Cathy (and husband Rick), and Jim (and wife Cheryl). Bob's legacy of love and wisdom lives on in his eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the values he espoused. His sister, Sandra Clevenger, and her husband Jack also survive him, along with countless friends and coworkers. Beyond his professional and civic accomplishments, Bob was a man of varied interests. He found joy in boating, golfing with friends, and cherished every moment spent with family. His warmth, encouragement, and unwavering belief in others inspired all who knew him. Bob had an unparalleled gift for lifting spirits and fostering the best in everyone, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum, which held a special place in Bob's heart. https://farmandranch-friends.org/donate/ In accordance with his wishes, a private service will be held to celebrate Bob's extraordinary life. Though we mourn his passing, we carry forward his spirit of love, kindness, encouragement, and are ever grateful for the time we were blessed to share with him. Bob G. Barnes will forever be remembered as a beacon of hope and a role model whose legacy will guide us all. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
