Obituary

Beverly Krudys [née Dutka] Beverly died on September 5, 2026, at the age of 89, in Nashville, TN, after a brief battle with cancer. Born on January 18, 1937, to John and Anna Dutka, Beverly was raised in Clifton, NJ, and graduated from Clifton High School in 1954. She began her career as a hairdresser, a profession she loved and practiced throughout much of her life. She later became a Research Beautician for SmithKline Beecham and completed her career as a Research Professional working alongside chemists at GlaxoSmithKline.

Beverly married Dan Krudys on May 11, 1957. Shortly after their marriage, Dan was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve in Germany, and Beverly joined him there. Together, they spent a memorable year traveling throughout Europe. They shared 44 happy years of marriage and made their home in Garfield, NJ.

After many cherished vacations on Lake Dunmore in Vermont, Beverly and Dan bought a lakefront home there. It became a treasured gathering place where they spent many joyful days with family and friends. It was wonderful to see her floating with a noodle in the middle of the cove or relaxing with a book in her Adirondack chair.

One of Beverly’s great adventures came in retirement, when she and Dan spent 48 days traveling through the western United States and 49 days driving to Alaska and back. She carried fond memories of that journey throughout her life.

Beverly was an active member of the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation New Jersey Support Group. She helped organize the annual OI Beefsteak Fundraisers, raising funds for research to support children like her grandson, Jeffrey.

Beverly will always be remembered for her contagious laugh, her devotion to family, and the thoughtful, custom-made greeting cards she created for the people she loved.

She loved preparing meals for family and friends and took great delight in convincing someone to enjoy seconds—and even thirds.

Beverly was an avid reader—as long as the story had a happy ending! She especially enjoyed nonfiction, particularly autobiographies. Her love of books and community was reflected in her 38 years of service as a Garfield Library Board member and vice president. She was also a member of the Adventures in Cooking Book Club, the Garfield Library Book Club, the Fair Lawn Thursday Recipe Club, and the Words, Women & Wine Book Club in TN.

She lived the last four years with her daughter, Ellen and son-in-law Kevin Haley in Lebanon, TN, where she was adopted, adored and doted on by all of their friends.

Beverly is survived by her daughter, Ellen, and her husband, Kevin Haley; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Krudys, Kyle Krudys, his wife, Anna, their daughter, Charlotte, and Dana Krudys; brother-in-law, Ray Damiano and numerous beloved nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Krudys; her son, Daniel Krudys; her mother, Anna Dutka (née Horn); her father, John Dutka; her sister, Jean Damiano (née Dutka).

In keeping with Beverly’s wishes, funeral services will not be held. Family and friends will gather for a private ceremony at a future date.

Memorial donations may be made in Beverly Krudys’ honor to the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation, Shriners Children’s Hospital, or Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
