Obituary

Arthur Phurrough Jr.

May 13, 1934 – March 30, 2026

Art Phurrough passed away at the age of 91, just weeks after the loss of his beloved wife, Kathryn, following nearly 68 years of marriage. Born in Sylacauga, Alabama, Art (known as Jr.) was the youngest of six—full of energy, mischief, and a bright spirit that defined him throughout his life.

As a young man, he loved sports and adventure, and at just seventeen, he felt the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force. Following his service, Art made his way to Florida, where he met the love of his life, Kathryn. He won her over with his charm and smile, and they were married on Easter, beginning a lifelong journey together.

Soon after, they packed up and headed to Colorado in search of opportunity and a life they would build side by side. Art began working for the Public Service Company of Colorado, where his skill in electricity and natural ability to fix things made him highly respected and dependable. He took great pride in his work and in providing for his growing family.

Art and Kathryn built a beautiful life together, welcoming their children Eve, Sherrie, and Bryan, who remained at the center of his world.

Art was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He loved unconditionally and took great pride in his family, especially in his role as “Big Pappa” to his great-grandson, Baker.

He had a gift for connecting with others. He made friends in every room he entered and left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He never met a stranger.

A passionate fan of the Denver Broncos, Art enjoyed attending games as a longtime season ticket holder. He loved staying active—fixing things, caring for his garden, and always keeping busy.

He is survived by his children, Eve Lowry and husband John Lowry, Sherrie Phurrough, and Bryan Phurrough; grandchildren, Courtney Schlie and husband Eric Schlie, Jamie Lowry, and Jake Lowry and wife Tatum Lowry; great-grandson, Baker Schlie; and his best friend of 64 years, Jack Weibel.

While his family mourns his loss, they find comfort in knowing he is reunited with Kathryn, continuing their love story in eternity.
