Arthur Louis Durand

Arthur Durand, 92, of Elbert, Colorado, passed away on September 18, 2026.

Art was born May 10, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, to Louisa Sanchez and Tomas Duran. He was one of five children and had an identical twin brother. Art grew up in a family of limited means, raised primarily by his mother, Louisa, with his older sister helping care for the younger children. The family later moved to Aurora, Colorado.

As a young man, Art completed basic training in the United States Army. He studied chemistry before beginning a long career as a high school mathematics teacher with Denver Public Schools. He and Sandy also owned Camelot Communications, a small family-owned business.

Art married Sandy, and together they raised four children: Jeff, Greg, Amy and Matt. Their family grew over the years to include grandchildren Walter, Brittany, Jennifer and Edward, six great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Throughout his life, Art was known for his generosity and willingness to help others. He and Sandy opened their home to people who needed a place to stay and made helping others an important part of their family life.

Art’s Catholic faith was an important part of his life. He attended Mass faithfully and remained devoted to the Church throughout his life. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his generosity and his willingness to help others.

The rosary and funeral will be held at Our Lady of Visitation on Friday, October 2, 2026 at 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM respectively. A reception will follow at 1:00 PM.
