Allen Ray Stwalley

Allen Ray Stwalley, known as “Ray”, 81, passed away peacefully, on April 5, 2026, in Thornton

Colorado surrounded by the members of his family. He is survived by his wife Bonnie Young

Stwalley being in love for 32 years and married for 13 years.

Service will be held on Saturday, May 2 at 2 pm at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church

in 3960 E 128th Ave Thornton Colorado, 80241. A reception will follow service.

Ray was born on June 18, 1944, in Salida, Colorado to Richard Charles Stwalley and Luella Jane

Allen Stwalley. Their father 1sst Lt. Richard Stwalley was killed when the B29 Superfortress

plane from Pueblo Air Base that he was in exploded in mid air killing all 13 soldiers aboard. The

family lived in Salida until his mother accepted a music teaching position in Truth or

Consequences, New Mexico, when Ray was 12 and his sister Judy was 10.

In 1963 Ray graduated from Hot Springs High School in Truth or Consequences, as valedictorian

and then attended the University of Colorado at Boulder where he graduated with a degree in

business. While at CU he met and married Louise Treff. They had one child, Richard. After

graduation, Ray went to work for the Army using his computer skills. The family moved several

times working for different Army Depots first Texarkana Texas and then Louisville, Kentucky.

While there he also went to University of Kentucky and earned a Masters Degree in Business.

After leaving the Army in 1978, Ray relocated to the Denver area, where he spent most of is

adult life working as a systems analyst. He and Louise divorced shortly after moving back to

Denver. He met Bonnie Young, in 1993 and they married in 2013. In 2001 after they retired,

they moved to Buena Vista, Colorado, where they lived for 23 years until moving to the Denver

area to be close to family. While in Buena Vista, Ray was an active member of Grace Church,

serving as Council Chair and technical advisor. He worked part-time for Tru-Scale Models. Inc.

designing and building railroad track for miniature railroad layouts. He was one of the few

people who provided this service to model railroaders world wide. He and Bonnie traveled

extensively, including owning 3 Rv’s over the years.

At the time of his death, Ray was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in

Thornton, Colorado. He enjoyed reading, playing bridge, golfing, traveling, and singing in the

church choir. He was an excellent scripture reader and loved his dog Prince.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, and aunt Billie Love and uncles Herb Stwalley and

Don Stwalley. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, his son Richard Stwalley and four

grandchildren, Jade Wike(Max), Julia Stwalley, Jason Stwalley, Clint Walker and his sister, Judy

Epperson (John), and cousins Susan Shampine, William Love ( Jeff), Bob Stwalley,(Deb)

Richard Stwalley, Sherry Stwalley, Ron Evans(Betty) and Al Hea (Matthew) and Prince.
